“Glanzlichter”: Two Highlights of Biomedical Research with LIT participation
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Regensburg has honored two LIT publications as “Highlights of Biomedical Research” in January and March. The “Highlights of Biomedical Research” platform offers young researchers in particular the opportunity to showcase outstanding research achievements, providing valuable insights into the faculty’s contributions.

The publication selected in January (first authors Sascha Göttert and Dr. Erik Thiele Orberg) was a “Nature Communications” study from the LIT Cooperation Group “Innate Immune Sensing in Cancer and Transplantation”, headed by Prof. Hendrik Poeck: This work reveals how a microbial metabolite safeguards the intestinal barrier and drives stem cell-mediated regeneration after injury. The results also show that this microbial product simultaneously reinforces the immune defense against leukemia. Get more information in the news here.
The March “Highlights of Biomedical Research” study (first authors Julius C. Fischer and Sascha Göttert) was published in “Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy” and shows: Regulatory T cells (Tregs), a specialized type of immune cells, utilize inflammatory signals to start repair processes following cancer therapy. This honored research was also conducted by the LIT Cooperation Group “Innate Immune Sensing in Cancer and Transplantation” and uncovers how the body`s own immune system can be harnessed to repair the intestinal lining and improve survival. The “Highlights of Biomedical Research” give an insight into the research at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Regensburg. All selected highlights are automatically considered for the Medical Faculty’s publication award.
