Podcast “Wirkstoffradio”: Interview with Dr. Markus Barden

Dr. Markus Barden conducts research at the Leibniz Institute for Immunotherapy (LIT) in the Genetic-Immunotherapy Division, focusing in particular on how CAR T cells can recognize their target structures even more precisely. In the podcast “Wirkstoffradio”, he explains what a CAR T cell is, how T cells identify target structures, and what reactions follow.

Later in the podcast episode, he describes the development of CAR T-cell technology from the first generation to the current fourth-generation constructs, known as TRUCKs. These are being developed at the LIT and transferred to clinical application. TRUCKs can not only recognize and eliminate tumor cells, but also release cytokines to recruit additional immune cells that support the fight against cancer.

Finally, “Wirkstoffradio” host Bernd Rupp and Markus Barden discuss how new CAR T or TRUCK constructs for the treatment of solid tumors find their way from the laboratory through production to clinical application.
