Prof. Carl H. June is internationally recognized as a pioneer of CAR T-cell therapy, which is approved for multiple blood cancers today. But the potential goes far beyond that: As a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, June is advancing CAR T-cell therapy for solid tumors and autoimmune diseases as well.

The 2025 Taylor Prize highlights the transformative potential of cell-based immunotherapy and recognizes June’s contributions as follows: “His groundbreaking work has inspired scientists across the globe and offers new hope for patients facing life-threatening diseases.” The J. Allyn Taylor International Prize in Medicine has been given annually since 1985 by the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Robarts Research Institute.

CAR T-cell therapy uses engineered cells – known as “living drugs” – to reprogram a patient’s own immune cells to recognize and destroy cancer. June’s pioneering work has saved countless lives around the world. His research even led to the first pediatric success story in 2012, when a young patient with aggressive leukemia achieved lasting remission through CAR T-cell therapy.

June has received numerous awards to date. On November 25, Carl June will be acknowledged at the Taylor Prize Dinner for his transformative work in basic sciences, translational research, and innovation in medicine.

Congratulations and thank you for all the contributions made to our scientific work at LIT!
