New GMP/GCP Seminar Series at the LIT

For about six months since March, around 50 postdocs, PhDs and master students at the LIT went through an entire curriculum program mediating knowledge about Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The GMP/GCP seminar series was newly established. In future, this pilot program focusing on clinical translation could also be expanded into a training hub offered to external partners.

GMP facility technologies, quality management systems, clinical trial design, ethics and immunomonitoring – these five topics represent only some of the areas included in the new GMP/CCP seminar series. “Our program leverages core competencies and was designed to impart knowledge on clinical translation to the next generation of scientists,” Prof. Philipp Beckhove, Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute for Immunotherapy (LIT) says. “The LIT is unique among research institutes in Europe because of its GMP compliant manufacturing facility.” This facility – also known as José-Carreras-Center (JCC) – is dedicated to cell products for patients.

The course was based both at the LIT and at JCC. Dr. Stefanie Windschüttl, Quality Assurance & Manufacturing, JCC, as well as Dr. Andreas Mitsch, Head of Quality Control, JCC, and Prof. Matthias Edinger, Director of JCC and Head of the LIT Immunoregulation Group primarily had designed and run the program. Various other experts in different fields were invited as guest lecturers.

With the successful completion of the program the participants received a certificate to broaden their career prospects in both academia and industry. Furthermore, the PhD students gained credit points towards their studies for the program via the Regensburg International Graduate School of Life Sciences (RIGeL).
