Immunologist Shimon Sakaguchi, a member of the RCI Scientific Advisory Board, is honored with the Robert-Koch-Award this year.

Shimon Sakaguchi researches and teaches at Osaka University and discovered the regulatory T cells. These cells are indispensable components of the immune system and serve for immunological self-tolerance and homeostasis. Regulatory T cells are one of the main research topics of the RCI.

The Robert-Koch-Award is one of the most prestigious scientific awards of the Federal Republic of Germany.
